Here Is Proof That We Are Eating Bathing & Drinking Plastics

We are eating, drinking and bathing with plastics

We have been using plastics in our daily products. It has now become an integral part of our lifestyle. One day I decided to list out things made up of plastic in my daily life and I was surprised to learn that more than 90% of the products I use contain plastics. India produces more than 25,000 tonnes of plastic every single day and 80% of these plastics are being dumped as waste material. The plastic industry is also huge in India and it is one of the largest exporters of plastic products.
Plastic has been found in all sphere and environments from rivers, lakes, high altitude mountains, desert, and snow-covered glaciers, Deep Ocean. Most of the plastic in the environments are being degraded by sunlight and other forces into smaller plastics called microplastics. These microplastics are further broken down into nanoplastics. Several studies have reported the presence of microplastics in bottled water, honey, beer, salts, fish, clams etc. It has been found that 1kg of salt contains around 600 microplastics. A seafood lover may be consuming thousands of these tiny particles every month without even been knowing about it.
The other sources of these microplastics are the facial scrubs and shower gels. Every year thousands of tonnes of plastic microbeads are being washed into the ocean through these personal care products (PCPs). Several countries like the USA, the European Union has banned the production of these PCPs but in countries like India, it is still being sold in the market.
Some studies have also shown that almost 70,000 microplastics enter our food annually through indoor dust. We had been consuming microplastic through various sources and there is no surprise when a scientist has also found microplastic in human stool. It is high time that we stop using plastic in our daily life and save the environment and ultimately protect ourselves.
